Welcome to the Bombshell Brew Modeling and Gaming Artist Paint Blog
There are a few tenets that I will be using in explaining how to make your very own Modeling and Gaming Artist Acrylic Paint. This is so that I am able to communicate and help to reliably recreate these colors that I am going to be sharing with our Modeling and Gaming Artist community.
Formulation: This is very simply a recipe, the end product in fancy schmancy terminology.
Base Color: This is one of the colors you will use to create your wonderful and magical rainbow of Acrylic goodness.
ABM: Air Brush Medium, specifically Liquitex Air Brush Medium... AKA... the good stuff.
Tools of the Trade:
Strictly speaking... I am trying to provide this in a manner that will allow you to create these colors for yourself... do you need everything I am about to list, no... will it help if you do... probably... but don't let that keep you from creating... if this information helps you to achieve something you are happy with... then mission accomplished.
A scale: this can be a simple kitchen scale like you can find on Amazon for less than $20. These are accurate for our needs, just be aware that Kitchen scales often will turn off after 10 - 20 seconds of inactivity so if you are building a batch of color, have everything ready to go and organized so that you can build it quickly without having the scale turn off and zero out your weights.
Dropper Bottles: I suggest LDPE bottles that you can get on Amazon or eBay in sizes anywhere from 5 or 10mL to the hundreds of milliliters. The formulations here are in 1 bottle batches of 17 mL with an additional 2.4 mL of Airbrush Medium, unless otherwise noted as some formulations might use black for instance in a very small quantity that is not easily measured unless in say a three bottle batch.
Yorker Bottles: Again, these are LDPE bottles that are excellent for holding your Base Colors as well as making batches of say three or more bottles worth of color. Yorker bottles are very handy in that you can use them to fill your Dropper Bottles. Hobby Lobby and Amazon are good places to get Yorker Bottles, I would suggest the 150 mL variety as this allows you to make a bottle of base color, and have room to use it and add another 100 mL of base color thereby replenishing your base color.
Aggitators: These are optional and can be any number of different materials... I would recommend nothing larger than 6mm - 8mm for dropper bottles and 10mm for Yorker Bottles. Stainless steel works very well although occasionally can rust but rarely causes an issue for the overall color unless it is very light color such as white... but even then... probably not noticeable.
Labeling: This is important for both your Yorker Bottles and for your Dropper Bottles, the labeling on the Yorker Bottles is important so that you are using the right Base Colors for whatever formulation you are making, the labels for the Dropper Bottles are important... because you will be sorely disappointed if you spray one shade of Olive Drab where you meant to spray a different shade of Olive Drab... labels matter.
